Optomap with OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) screening is a comprehensive imaging technology used during eye exams to assess the health of the retina and optic nerve.
Our office uses Silverstone, which is the latest and most advanced retinal imaging device offering Optomap with OCT.
Optomap is a wide-field imaging system that captures a digital photograph of the retina. It provides a panoramic view of the back of the eye, including the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels, without the need for dilation in most cases. Optomap helps detect various retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachments, and glaucoma.
Comprehensive Retinal Imaging
Optomap provides a wide-field view of the retina, which allows eye care professionals to assess the entire back of the eye including the peripheral retina.
Early Detection of Eye Diseases
Optomap enables early detection of retinal abnormalities and diseases, often before symptoms manifest. Early detection is crucial for timely intervention and treatment, which can help prevent vision loss and preserve eye health.
Patient Comfort
Optomap imaging is non-invasive and typically does not require pupil dilation. This makes the screening process more comfortable and convenient for patients compared to traditional methods that may involve dilation.
Efficiency
Optomap imaging is quick and efficient, reducing the time required for comprehensive retinal evaluation during an eye exam.
Patient Education
Optomap images provide valuable visual documentation of the retina's condition over time. Eye doctors can use these images to educate patients about their eye health, explain the progression of certain conditions, and discuss treatment options more clearly and effectively.
Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT, is a non-invasive imaging technology that enables high-resolution, cross-sectional imaging of the eye. It utilizes light waves to capture detailed, three-dimensional images of tissue microstructures with remarkable precision and clarity, allowing eye care professionals to assess the thickness and integrity of retinal layers, detect swelling or fluid accumulation, and identify structural abnormalities.
High Resolution
OCT provides detailed visualization of the layers within the retina, aiding in the diagnosis and management of retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. This level of precision enables your eye doctor to detect subtle abnormalities and monitor disease progression with greater accuracy compared to dilation methods alone.
Non-Invasive
OCT is non-invasive and minimizes discomfort during the retinal screening process.
Real-Time Imaging
OCT enables real-time visualization of tissue structures, allowing for immediate assessment and intervention. OCT screening enhances the ability of eye care professionals to detect and manage various eye diseases and conditions at their early stages.
