AgeJET: Plasma Skin Resurfacing & Nonsurgical Blepharoplasty

What is AgeJET?

AgeJET is an FDA-approved, nonsurgical, noninvasive skin resurfacing treatment that is transforming the way that we treat eyes and skin.

This innovative procedure utilizes plasma energy to stimulate collagen remodeling and restore skin elasticity, effectively treating:

  • Droopy eyelids
  • Fine and deep lines and wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Skin laxity
  • Acne scars, acne prevention, and bacteria mitigation
  • Hand rejuvenation

This technology first emerged in 2005. Since then, it has undergone significant improvements and gained recognition for its effectiveness in treating a wide range of dermatological conditions.

How does AgeJET Work?

The Technology

What is Plasma?

What is Plasma?

Using ultra-high frequency technology, AgeJET converts medical-grade nitrogen gas into plasma. The resulting plasma, administered through controlled pulses, penetrates and heats the dermal tissue, stimulating a physiological response for deep skin regeneration.

This comprehensive approach treats the entire skin structure, promoting collagen and elastin synthesis and ensuring broad-ranging improvement throughout the dermal layers. Effects are both immediate and long-term, with new collagen production continuing for up to a year after treatment, resulting in skin that feels, and looks, more youthful and refreshed.

What is Plasma?

What is Plasma?

What is Plasma?

Plasma, the fourth state of matter, is created when gas undergoes increased energy application. This results in high energy, electrically charged particles. Plasma occurs naturally, in phenomena like lightning and the sun's energy, as well as in human-designed applications such as neon lights and fluorescent light bulbs.

AgeJET specifically utilizes nitrogen plasma, perfectly suited for non-ablative treatment of various dermatological conditions.

Concerns Effectively Treated

Benefits

  • Non-ablative (the top layer of the skin is not removed)
  • Significant improvements compared to older resurfacing technology
  • Integrated cooling for patient comfort
  • Flexible control settings for a customized treatment plan
  • Addresses multiple skin issues simultaneously

What to Expect with your AgeJET Treatment

Preparation:

2 Weeks Before Treatment:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning.
  • Apply SPF 30+ mineral sunscreen on all areas intended for treatment.
  • Keep your skin moisturized.

1 Week Before Treatment:

  • Avoid exfoliates (scrubs, washes, and other treatments that remove the outermost part of the skin).
  • Discontinue the use of retinols, AHA/BHA, and tretinoin in the intended area of treatment.
  • Shave the treatment area one day prior to procedure, if necessary.
  • Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water for several days in advance of the treatment. For the best results, drink at least 4 cups of water per day for at least 2 days prior to your appointment.

Coming To the appointment:

  • Arrive with clean skin, free of any makeup, cosmetic products, perfumes, or lotions.
  • Do not use mascara or wear contact lenses.
  • Carry a clean hat and sunglasses for sun protection after the treatment.

During the Procedure:

Duration: Typically takes 10 minutes for eyes and 30 minutes for full face, with varying times for other treatment areas.

Location: In-office.

Preparing your skin:  Begins with a clean, make-up free face (we have cleaning products if needed).

Energy Delivery: Energy is delivered via thermal nitrogen plasma pulses with the use of a handpiece. At this time, our office exclusively offers low and medium energy treatments that do not require anesthetics. These low and medium energy treatments provide the same skin rejuvenating benefits without the side effects of significant skin peeling associated with higher energy level settings.

After the Procedure:

Your skin will be fragile, so treat it gently! Downtime will vary based on treatment strength and skin condition, but most patients can return to normal activities the day of or the day after treatment.

Immediate:

  • The treated area may feel warm, like a sunburn, for several hours, and will appear pink to red in color.
  • Before leaving the office, we will apply a thin layer of HA serum to help moisturize your skin.
  •  You can wash the treated area with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, softly patting dry. Avoid hot water on the area for 72 hours.
  • Hydrate and protect your skin from sun exposure with moisturizer and SPF 30+ post treatment, daily.
  • Keep drinking water!

24-72 hours:

  • Apply HA serum to the treated area 3-4 times per day for 5 days post treatment.
  • If you have dry skin or your skin is not well hydrated before treatment, you may have some dry patches or light flaking afterward. If this does occur, just add additional moisturizer to the area. Do not pick at your skin!
  • Avoid excessive exercise, sweating, hot baths or showers, and saunas (i.e. activities that add more heat into your skin).
  • You may resume normal skincare 72 hours post treatment.
  • Continue drinking water!

 Timeline/Results:

  • Immediate tightening of treated skin.
  • Up to a week post-treatment, some patients will experience reddish to brownish colored spots, dryness, and tightness. There may also be flaking or peeling of the skin; if so, do not pick at your skin. This is a normal healing process that may be present with certain skin types. See the image on the right for an example of the healing process and timeline.
  • Noticeable improvements between 1-4 weeks.
  • Significant results at 90 days.

How Many Treatments?Individualized treatment plans will be discussed with the doctor based on your goals and initial skin condition.
