How Good Is Your Color Vision?

Having Trouble with the Game?

If you're having trouble spotting the different color, you're not alone. This game can be tricky even for people with normal color vision.  It's not a medical vision test, but it's a fun way to explore how we see colors. If you think you may have a color vision problem, we're happy to help.

At San Carlos Eye Care, we offer Chemistrie Color clip-ons and glasses designed to help enhance color contrast and improve color perception for people with color vision deficiency. These are non-prescription lenses that can be worn on their own or added as clip-ons over your prescription glasses.

Want to see if Chemistrie Color can help you? Ask us at your next visit—or stop by and try them on in-office!

Understanding Color Vision Deficiency

Color vision deficiency—often called color blindness—is a condition where someone has trouble seeing certain colors accurately. It doesn’t mean you see the world in black and white. Most people with this condition can still see color, but some shades may look very similar or hard to tell apart.

This can affect everyday things like:

  • Telling if fruit is ripe
  • Reading color-coded charts
  • Seeing traffic signals clearly
  • Choosing matching clothes
  • Reading school or work presentations with color-coded text

If you or someone you love has color vision deficiency, you’re not alone—and there are ways we can help.

Types of Color Vision Deficiency

Color vision deficiency comes in different forms, and some are more common than others:

  • Red-Green Deficiency – The most common type. Reds, greens, browns, and oranges may look alike.
  • Blue-Yellow Deficiency – Less common. Blues and greens may blend together; yellows can appear pale or pinkish.
  • Total Color Blindness – Very rare. Everything appears in shades of gray.

Most cases are inherited and lifelong, though some can result from eye disease, injury, or medications.

Benefits of Chemistrie Color Lenses

  • Designed to improve red-green color contrast
  • Options for both prescription and non-prescription wearers
  • Lightweight, comfortable, and easy to use
  • Useful for reading, driving, school, and daily tasks
  • May help you see colors you’ve never noticed before
  • Many people describe the experience as surprisingly eye-opening—whether it's enjoying nature, recognizing subtle color differences, or gaining confidence in everyday activities.

A Real-World Tool: Chemistrie Color Lenses

While there’s no cure for inherited color vision deficiency, Chemistrie Color lenses can make a meaningful difference in how you experience the world around you.

These specialty lenses are designed to enhance color contrast—helping separate shades that typically look the same. They work especially well for red-green color vision deficiency, which is the most common type.

Chemistrie Color lenses are non-prescription, and they’re available whether or not you wear glasses. This makes it easy and flexible for anyone to experience improved color perception—no matter their current eyewear situation.

  • If you wear prescription glasses, we can create a custom magnetic lens clip-on that fits over your current frames.
  • If you don’t need prescription glasses, you can choose a frame you like, and the Chemistrie Color lenses will be made and placed directly into that frame.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chemistrie Color Lenses

Who can use Chemistrie Color lenses?

Chemistrie Color lenses are designed for individuals with red-green color vision deficiency. They’re suitable for both children and adults. Lenses can be adapted for prescription glasses or placed directly into non-prescription frames.

What kind of difference will I notice?

Some people experience subtle changes, while others notice a big improvement in color contrast right away. Everyone’s response is unique, so we encourage you to try them on in person to see how they work for you.

Can I try them before buying?

Yes. We offer in-office trials so you can experience the lenses firsthand before deciding.

How are the lenses worn?

  • Chemistrie Color lenses are non-prescription.
  • If you wear prescription glasses, we can create a custom magnetic clip-on that attaches to your current frames.
  • If you don’t need a prescription, you can simply choose a frame you like, and the lenses will be placed directly into that frame.

How much do they cost?

Pricing depends on the frame and lens setup. We’ll go over costs clearly during your visit. These lenses are not covered by insurance.

Will they affect my vision?

No, they won’t blur your vision. They’re designed to improve color perception while maintaining clarity, so you can read, work, and go about your day as usual.

Can I drive while wearing them?

We recommend testing them in a safe setting first. While many users report improved color separation, traffic lights and signs may look different. We’ll guide you on safe use.

Is there research behind these lenses?

Yes. Chemistrie Color lenses use optical filtering technology to separate overlapping wavelengths of light. While they don’t cure color vision deficiency, they may improve how you see and interact with colors in everyday life.
